A SALE Budget Car Rentals employee was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering shock after a man armed with a hunting knife demanded cash during an armed hold-up on Saturday.
The offender entered the car rental business on the corner of York and Macarthur Sts in Sale about 10.05am Saturday morning, proceeding to the back office where he demanded cash from the attendant.
The offender is described as being aged in his 20s, of aboriginal appearance, about 170cm tall and of medium build.
He was wearing a black shirt, black jeans, white runners with bright red shoelaces, a camouflage print baseball cap and dark sunglasses.
Police said the man fled on foot with cash.
Budget Car Rentals’ general manager Tony Burrows said the employee was still shaken by the incident.
He added it was the policy of Budget Car Rentals’ not to keep money on the premises, which made the hold-up all the more troubling.
Saturday’s incident marks the fourth armed robbery in Sale in the past seven months, with two separate incidents occurring at the United petrol station on the Sale-Maffra Rd late last year.
There was also an armed robbery at the previous Sale’s Lakeside Club (which was known as Sporties) in July last year.
Police are appealing for witnesses to this latest incident.
They would like to speak with anyone who might have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area around 10am, or who might have any other information.
People with information are being urged to phone Sale Police Station on 5143 5000 and ask for detective senior constable Harris or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
