Fatal collision at Foster North

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision which occurred in Foster North this morning, involving two cars and a street sweeper.

Investigators have been told that a BMW sedan was travelling east on the South Gippsland Highway, near Lundstroms Rd, when it collided with a street sweeper.

From initial inquiries, it appears that the BMW had just overtaken a car, also travelling east, when it collided with the sweeper which was travelling west.

As a result of the collision, the sweeper then collided with the car that had been overtaken by the BMW resulting in the death of the driver, a 51- year-old Leongatha woman.

The female driver of the sweeper received minor injuries and was conveyed to hospital.

The driver of the BMW, a 21-year-old Port Welshpool man was also conveyed to hospital with leg injuries.
