A 44-YEAR-old Pakenham man died after he rescued a 10-year-old boy from the water at Golden Beach on Saturday.
The man had just managed to push the child off on a wave, taking him in closer to the shore, when he was swept away.
A man on a surf-board plucked the boy to safety but the man disappeared from view.
Two campers located the man’s body floating in shallow water just before 6pm.
The drowning was one of three in Victoria on Saturday, the others at Lorne and Rye.
Police are preparing reports for the Coroner.
