ESSO has advised there will be increased flaring and associated smoke from the Esso Longford Plant from today Wednesday April 17 to Friday April 19.
The flaring will be the result of a plant critical function test. This test is part of Esso’s safety systems and is an activity conducted annually.
The flaring event is expected to be for a period of up to four hours.
Flares are an important safety mechanism on site that burn excess gas during operational interruption, preventing release to the atmosphere.
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has been notified of this activity and Esso will continue to update the EPA as required. The Country Fire Authority has also been notified, as have neighbours.
While additional flaring and associated smoke may be noticeable, Esso does not anticipate any impact to the community.
