Deer hunters airlifted

THREE deer hunters from Lilydale and Wonga Park were airlifted out of Terrible Hollow on Saturday after the trio became lost at Mt Howitt Friday night.

The group, which had no GPS or emergency warning beacon, became lost, climbing a hill to reach the cliff top to discover they had no way of getting down.

The men were able to phone police on their mobile phones, but because of poor light the rescue was delayed until the following morning when police could locate their position.

SES and Parks Victoria rangers from Heyfield assisted in the search.
