POLICE are warning drivers to take care in the Heyfield area, with reports of increasing numbers of sambar deer being reported on roadways.
Sen-Const Greg Cogan of Sale police said a vehicle collided with a deer on Tuesday night on the Traralgon-Maffra Rd east of Heyfield.
He said police had been called to the area just days before to secure deer in paddocks which had been found wandering on the roadway.
Sen-Const Cogan said it appeared the deer were heading to farmland areas to feed, as food sources became more scarce in the alps.
He said police had concerns for drivers, particularly at night, and urged them to be vigilant.
