Updated 2pm 18/6/13:
A MODERATE flood warning is in place for the Mitchell River catchment.
Minor warnings are in place for the Thomson, Latrobe and Avon river catchments and the Gippsland Lakes.
Thomson River:
IN the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday rainfall totals of up to 43mm were recorded in the Thomson River catchment. Rainfall totals of up to 20mm have been forecast for the remainder of Tuesday.
Rivers in the Thomson catchment are below flood levels, however with forecast rainfall renewed areas of minor flooding may re develop.
Renewed stream rises are occurring at the Thomson River at Cooper Creek, however the river at this location is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.3m).
The Thomson River upstream of Cowwarr Weir is currently around the minor flood level (3.6m). Based on forecast rainfall the river at this location is expected to remain around the minor flood level for the majority of Tuesday.
Renewed stream rises to around the minor flood level (6.2m) are expected later Tuesday at the Thomson River at Wandocka.
The Thomson River at Sale Wharf is peaking below the minor flood level (2.4m). With the forecast rainfall renewed rises are expected from late Wednesday.
Latrobe River
IN the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday rainfall totals of up to 40mm have been recorded in the Latrobe River catchment. Isolated rainfall totals of up to 10mm have been forecast for the remainder of Tuesday.
Minor flooding is occurring in the Latrobe River catchment around Rosedale. Renewed stream rises are expected throughout the Latrobe catchment as a result of forecast rainfall over the coming days.
The Latrobe River at Thom’s Bridge has responded to recent rainfall but is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4m).
The Latrobe River at Rosedale is currently below the minor flood level (4m). Renewed stream rises are occurring which is expected to result in the redevelopment of minor flooding around and downstream of Rosedale for the next several days.
Avon River
RAINFALL totals of up to 75mm have been recorded in the Avon River catchment since 9am Monday. Rainfall totals of 5 to 10mm have been forecast for the remainder of Tuesday.
Renewed stream rises are occurring in the Avon River due to rainfall over the last 24 hours and minor flooding may develop around Stratford during Tuesday.
Renewed rises are occurring at the Avon River at The Channel, however the river is expected to remain below the minor flood level (5m).
Renewed rises are occurring at the Avon River at Stratford. The river may reach the minor flood level (4.5m) late Tuesday morning or early afternoon.
River heights:
Avon River at The Channel: 3.87m, rising (6.27am 18/06/13)
Freestone Creek at Briagolong: 3.44m, steady (6.40am 18/06/13)
Avon River at Stratford (Hydro Gauge): 4.21m, steady (6.44am 18/06/13)
Gippsland Lakes
AS a result of heavy rain in the Gippsland catchments over the last week, elevated lake levels are currently being observed.
With forecast rainfall during Tuesday and Wednesday, further rises in lake levels are possible.
Lake levels at Hollands Landing are currently around 0.6-0.7m. Further rises are possible over the next few days with a peak around 0.7-0.8m during Thursday.
Lake levels at Loch Sport are expected to remain around 0.6-0.7m.
Lake levels at Paynesville are currently around 0.5m. Further rises are possible over the next few days with a peak around 0.7-0.8m during Thursday.
Lake levels at Metung are expected to remain around 0.6-0.7m.
Lake levels at Lakes Entrance are expected to remain around 0.6-0.7m with high tides.
Mitchell River
IN the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday, rainfall totals of up to 68mm have been recorded in the Mitchell River catchment. Rainfall totals of 10 to 30mm have been forecast for the remainder Tuesday into Wednesday.
Minor flooding is occurring in the lower reaches of the Mitchell River catchment and with forecast rainfall moderate flooding may develop around Bairnsdale from Tuesday afternoon.
Renewed stream rises are occurring along the Mitchell River at Glenaladale. With forecast rainfall the river is expected to reach the minor flood level (3m) during during Tuesday afternoon.
With the forecast rainfall renewed stream rises occurring along the Mitchell River at Rosehill are expected to continue during Tuesday.
The Mitchell River at Bairnsdale Pumphouse was expected to have exceeded the minor flood level (4m) during Monday afternoon/evening. With forecast rainfall further rises to around the moderate flood level (5.5m) possible from Tuesday afternoon.
IN the interests of community safety, the SES has suggested people not to walk, ride or drive through floodwater, not to allow children to play in floodwater, to stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and keep well clear of fallen power lines.
