Minor flood warnings in place

Updated 11.30am 20/6/13:

MINOR flood warning are now in place for the Thomson, Latrobe and Mitchell rivers and Gippsland Lakes.

The warning for the Mitchell River has been downgraded from yesterday, while no warnings are in place for the Avon River.

Thomson River

IN the 24 hours to 9am Thursday no significant rainfall was recorded in the Thomson River catchment. No significant rainfall is expected for the remainder of Thursday.

The Thomson River at Wandocka is fell below the minor flood level (6.2m) during Wednesday.

Renewed rises are occurring at the Thomson River at Sale Wharf. Water levels at this location are currently around the minor  flood level (2.4m) and are expected to remain around this level overnight Thursday into Friday.

Latrobe River

NO significant rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours to 9am Thursday in the Latrobe River catchment. No significant rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Thursday.

Renewed areas of minor flooding are occurring in the Latrobe River catchment around Rosedale.

Renewed stream rises are occurring which has resulted in the redevelopment of minor flooding around and downstream of Rosedale. Stream levels around the minor flood level (4m) are expected to persist at this location for the remainder of Thursday.

Gippsland Lakes

AS a result of heavy rain in the Gippsland catchments over the last week, elevated lake levels are currently being observed.

Lake levels at Hollands Landing are currently around 0.7m. Levels are expected to remain around 0.6-0.7m during Thursday into Friday.

Lake levels at Loch Sport are expected to remain around 0.5-0.6m.

Lake levels at Paynesville are currently around 0.5m. Levels are expected to remain around 0.5-0.6m during Thursday into Friday.

Lake levels at Metung are expected to remain around 0.5-0.6m.

Lake levels at Lakes Entrance are expected to remain around 0.5-0.6m with high tides.

Mitchell River

IN the 24 hours to 9am Thursday, general rainfall totals of less than 10mm were recorded in the Mitchell River catchment. No significant rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Thursday.

Minor flooding is occurring in the lower reaches of the Mitchell River catchment.

The Mitchell River at Glenaladale fell below the minor flood level (3m) during Wednesday.

The Mitchell River at Rosehill peaked early Wednesday morning around 7.7m overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

Indications are that the Mitchell River at Bairnsdale Pumphouse is just above the minor flood level (4m). Areas of minor flooding are expected to persist around and downstream of Bairnsdale overnight Thursday into Friday.
