Devices detonated in Bairnsdale

BAIRNSDALE Criminal Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a series of incidents where incendiary devices have been detonated in Bairnsdale.

The first incident occurred on Thursday, July 25 around 9.45pm, when a home made explosive device was detonated in a letterbox in Moroney St, Bairnsdale. The explosion caused minor damage to the letterbox, but no one was hurt.

The following day, around 10.30pm, two further devices were detonated in the grounds of the West Bairnsdale Primary School. No one was injured as a result of the blast.

The third incident occurred at the same residence in Moroney St where two devices were again detonated in the letterbox, causing minor damage.

Police are extremely concerned for the safety of the public as well as those responsible for setting off these devices.

Anyone found creating or detonating these type of devices could face serious criminal charges, including conduct endangering life or persons and criminal damage which carry a possible term of imprisonment.

Anyone who locates a device they believe to be suspicious is urged to call 000 and not to touch or disturb the device in any way.
