EASTERN Victoria MLC Matt Viney will not be recontesting his seat at the next state election.
Mr Viney, Labor’s deputy president in the Legislative Council, advised State Opposition Leader Daniel Andrew on Thursday of his decision.
Mr Viney is still recovering from a minor stroke he had last month.
“Matt’s recovery continues, but he has advised me that he wants to put his health first,” Mr Andrews said.
“On behalf of the parliamentary Labor Party I would like to thank Matt for his service to the parliament, his community and the Labor Party.”
Another Eastern Victoria MLC, the Liberals’ Philip Davis, announced his retirement from parliament. Mr Davis will serve in parliament until his successor takes over.
The state election is due to be held Saturday, November 29.
