VICTORIAN Farmers Federation Gippsland regional branch has applauded Wellington Shire Council’s decision to upgrade Sale’s existing livestock saleyards.
VFF Gippsland multi-commodity branch chairman Tim Paulet said members of the VFF Gippsland branch had been involved in extensive discussions and negotiations with the council on the issue for a number of years.
“ The … branch is very pleased the Wellington Shire Council has taken the initiative on our advice to proceed with the viable solution of restoring the existing sale yard site in Sale.
“ With improvements to the structure and amenities being completed it is expected activity will return to the yards at a cost significantly less than that of constructing new yards in the Fulham area.
“This is a positive outcome not just for the shire’s agricultural sector but, indeed, for all ratepayers,” he said.
The VFF branch said it hoped to have discussions with council in the future to ensure productive solutions for the region.
