Cars left unlocked

SALE police gained access to 39 unlocked vehicles while conducting vehicle checks recently.

A total 300 cars were checked, in an operation involving Leading Senior Constables Sarah Reggardo and Rose Basford.

Many of the unlocked vehicles had iPads, purses, loose change, GPSs, cameras, phones and handbags on display, with one handbag containing a phone and purse left open in full view.

Five vehicles had dogs inside on the 29 degree day.

“Some had the windows slightly open; one even had the car running to keep the dogs in air-conditioned comfort,” Leading Sen-Const Reggardo said.

“It is a timely reminder that you should not leave pets in the vehicle as they heat up very quickly.

“On warm days leave the dogs at home, not in the car.”
