Suspicious fire at Buchan hut

POLICE are appealing for public assistance after a fire destroyed an historic hut in Buchan earlier this month.

On the afternoon of Thursday, March 13, a local resident attended a remote crossing of the Snowy River known as Jacksons Crossing.

The resident noticed the 40-year-old, hand-built bush hut had suffered fire damage and consequently been completely destroyed.

The hut is located at Jacksons Crossing Track on the west side of the Snowy River, around five kilometres east of Running Creek Track.

Police attended and have deemed the fire to be suspicious.

Detectives from East Gippsland Crime Investigation Unit are investigating and are keen to hear from anyone who may have information regarding the fire.
