Charges follow gun safe theft

TWO men have been charged following the theft of a gun safe containing a shotgun and a rifle from a Rachael Court, Sale home.

Sale CIU executed three warrants on Wednesday, two in Sale and one in Maffra, recovering a firearm and a large amount of other allegedly stolen goods.

They have charged a 21-year-old man from Sale and a 30-year-old Maffra man with handling stolen goods.

Tools, building materials and a container full of keys with individuals’ names on them were recovered.

Police believe the items have been taken from various building sites in the local area, and are also continuing investigations into the Rachael Court house burglary.

They said thieves removed roof tiles to gain entry to the home sometime between Friday and Sunday and took the unsecured safe which was located in the master bedroom.

They left via a bedroom window.

Police said the safe was heavy, and they were searching for at least two suspects.
