Two injured in highway crash

Emergency services raced to free a man and a woman trapped after a truck collided with a slow moving tractor towing a trailer on the Princes Highway about five kilometres east of Stratford this morning.

The collision sent fertiliser and gas canisters across a highway in Victoria’s east at about 7.30am, a police spokesman said.

Victoria Police, the CFA, Stratford and Sale SES and Ambulance Victoria were at the scene attending to a 45-year-old man and 56-year-old woman passenger who remained trapped inside the truck cabin for more than two hours. They were released by emergency services crews late morning and flown to a hospital in Melbourne.

The male driver of the tractor was unharmed.

“All the gas bottles have been secured, however, the road is going to be closed for about two hours to rehabilitate the scene,” a police spokesman said.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the pair both had serious injuries but are in a stable condition, he said.
