Maffra crash witnesses sought

MAFFRA police are appealing for witnesses to a series of crashes that occurred at around 3.30pm in Maffra on Tuesday.

Police received a number of phone calls from concerned residents who reported a silver VT Commodore wagon driving dangerously and doing burnouts.

An 18-year old Bairnsdale man was arrested at a residence in Powerscourt St, Maffra following the offences.

It is reported the man drove from Bairnsdale to a Sale hotel on Tuesday, then drove to Maffra where he hit the fence of the Wellington Shire depot, and narrowly missed hitting a schoolbus.

He has been processed by police for 10 offences including drink driving, reckless driving, driving without a licence and leaving the scene of an accident.

His blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.072, exceeding the legal limit. The man has been bailed to appear at the Sale Magistrates Court on July 28 this year.

Anyone with information is urged to phone Senior Constable Anthony Dessent on 5147 1026.
