Ban camp fires

As the Aberfeldie/Donnellys Creek fire rages through Gippsland, it is time that the CFA took decisive action in informing government of the dangerous situation when there is an extreme growth of fuel per hectare in forest areas and adjoining dry lands.

The unprecedented ultra extreme growth of fuel since the 2006/7 fires, with the extreme drying out of the land, has contributed to the ferocity of the current fires.

Until the CFA impresses upon government the danger this sitaution creates and that no open fires should be allowed in camping areas when the fuel index is so high, we will continue to have fires of the destructive force of the Aberfeldie/Donnellys Creek fires.

Politicians, informed by the CFA, must act decisively on this issue.
