SALE was upset by Mid Gippsland in the open division of Eastern Region State League netball last Friday night.
With national basketball player Belinda in Churchill to cheer on Mid Gippsland on, Jess Hillier was once again on fire in goals as the Sale defenders struggled to adjust to her small build.
Missing a gaoler, Sale also struggled to find the right combination in attack as it suffered its first defeat of the competition, 45-29.
The win put Mid Gippsland back into the top four at the expense of defending premier East Gippsland, who lost its third consecutive match, this time to Morwell Indoor.
With the return of star goal shooter Ramaya Gawley, Morwell Indoor outscored East by six goals in the first quarter. East struggled to erase the deficit in the second with Morwell increasing the lead to eight.
East put in a desperate effort in the third quarter to outscore Morwell by two goals, but Morwell held on to win 44-38.
Alberton opened its season account, defeating an undisciplined North Gippsland Black 55-28.
SALE’S 17 and under team blew North Gippsland off the court, winning 63-20.
Mid Gippsland suffered its second defeat in a high class match, going down to the undefeated East Gippsland 49-47.
THE final home and away round will be played this Friday night at Churchill with Sale keen to make up for last week’s open loss when it meets Alberton.
In the 17 and under competition, Sale will play Alberton Blue.
