SALE United was eliminated from the Gippsland Soccer League Battle of Britain Cup following a 4-0 loss at Churchill on Saturday night.
The Rams took the lead 15 minutes into the contest when Mitchell Jackson’s shot deflected off a Sale defender and into the net.
In the second half, a Luke Cheney shot went between the legs of Swans keeper Chris Richardson, who otherwise played a fine game, to double the Rams’ lead.
Mark Bianconi scored another goal from the penalty spot before Stepehn Riess knocked the ball into the net after the ball rebounded off the post late in the match.
The Swans will now focus their attention on their round one against Monash in Newborough on Sunday, April 15.
United’s reserves side remains in contention for the Shopwell Trophy after defeating Churchill United 2-0. The Swans will return to Hazelwood South Reserve in Churchill this Sunday to take on Traralgon City from noon for a place in the final, which will be played at the end of the season.
