LEONGATHA appears to be the team to beat in Gippsland League netball, following its big win at Maffra.
With both teams entering the contest undefeated, the Parrots proved too strong, winning 50-24.
Despite the loss, the Eagles remain in second place with their next opponent, Bairnsdale, two points adrift in third place.
The Parrots were also too strong for the Eagles in B and C grades, turning the tables on the home side, who dominated the junior games.
Maffra will play at Bairnsdale tomorrow as part of a double header with East Gippsland clubs Wy Yung and Stratford.
The first of the matches with begin at 10am with the East Gippsland D grade clash with matches played across two courts until the A grade game from 2pm. The first of the Gippsland games, the under 13s, begins at 1pm with the A grade from 6.15pm.
WONTHAGGI steadied in the final term to defeat Sale 49-45.
The teams went goal-for-goal in the first term, heading into quarter-time at 10-10 before the Power edged ahead at each change.
Late in the third quarter, the home side led by eight before the Magpies fought back to get within two. The Power steadied in the closing stages to win its first match of the season.
The Power won a close B grade match and finished strongly to claim the C grade match. The Magpies won the three junior matches.
The Magpies will host Traralgon tomorrow.
Match times have been arranged to suit both clubs who have under 13 players involved in a basketball tournament. Play will begin with the under 15s from 11am, with the under 13s to play from 1pm after the under 17 game, while the A grade match will begin at 4pm.
CHURCHILL recorded its second large win in as many weeks, this time accounting for Heyfield by 32 goals.
The Cougars’ 55-46 victory elevated them to third on the North Gippsland A grade netball ladder standings.
Traralgon-Tyers United continues to be the giant killers of the competition, this time accounted for Gormandale in a six-goal thriller, 52-46.
Woodside recorded its first win of the season with a 10-goal victory over Boisdale-Briagolong.
Roesdale returned to the winners’ list with a 42-31 victory over sixth-placed Glengarry, while Sale City was a comfortable victor over Cowwarr.
