Cygnets prevail against Swan Reach

THE Sale Cygnets prevailed 3-2 against Swan Reach after a hard fought match during round four of East Gippsland women’s hockey.

The ball moved quickly from end-to-end with fortunes seesawing throughout the match as both teams displayed great skill and teamwork.

The Cygnets’ goals were scored by Sarah Boag, Julia Lee and Julieanne Nicholls, while Shana Snell scored Swan Reach’s goals.

Maffra defeated Nagle 5-2 in a rematch of last year’s grand final to maintain its unbeaten start to the season. Kahlia Hillbrich and Caitlin Frisina scored two goals each for Maffra and Sharon Mogridge one.

The Sale Swans drew Bairnsdale 2-2.

TWO goals from Adam Cairns weren’t enough for Maffra as Nagle won 6-2.

Sale lost to Swan Reach with Matt Cunningham scoring the only goal. The game was fast and sometime hard fought with both sides running freely.

Bairnsdale continued its recent good form with a skilful 4-3 victory over Orbost. All four of Bairnsdale’s goals were scored by Scott Gillett, while Brendan Coulton scored Orbost’s three.

ORBOST was unwilling to travel to Sale to take on Wellington.

THIS Saturday, Sale will host Wellington, the Sale Swans women will be home against Maffra, Swan Reach will host Nagle, and Bairnsdale will travel to Orbost.
