A MARK Benfield hat-trick helped Sale defeat Maffra 6-0 in round four of East Gippsland men’s hockey.
Kevin Arbuthnot, Lachlan Meredith and Jason Slattery scored one goal each.
In other men’s matches, Swan Reach drew 2-2 with Nagle, an Orbost side rebuilding this year was unable to match the strength of last year’s premier Bairnsdale, who won 4-2.
IN the women’s, Maffra was too strong for Sale Swans, winning 7-0. Kate Steinman scored three goals, Kahlia Hilbritch two, Adelle O’Doherty and Bronwyn Hillbritch one each.
The Sale Cygnets defeated an undermanned Wellington 23-0. Gemma Tattersall and Julieanne Nicholls scored five goals each, Emily Carrolan four, Andie Christie and Julia Lee three each, Belinda Coulton two and Jacelyn Shields one.
In other matches, Swan Reach prevailed 5-1 against Nagle, and Orbost scored a strong 8-0 win over Bairnsdale.
THERE will be not matches tomorrow as many juniors will be playing in the state country championships in Melbourne. Play will resume on June 5.
