THE Sale Cygnets were too strong for the Sale Swans during round seven of East Gippsland women’s hockey.
The Cygnets won with goals from Emily Carrolan, Julia Lee, Makayla Colley, Andie Christie, Belinda Coulton, Julieanne Nicholls and Hannah Goodison.
Maffra defeated Orbost 7-2 with Kahlia Hillbritch scoring four goals, Kate Steinmann two and Emily Mogridge one. Stefanie Coote, Angela Costello scored for Orbost.
Swan Reach scored a 9-1 over Bairnsdale. Goals for Swan Reach were scored by Lisa Pruscino, Shana Snell (three each), Rebecca Corben (two) and Sue Spiller, while Tahlia Aitken scored for Bairnsdale.
Because of player illnesses, Wellington had to forfeit its match against Nagle.
NAGLE won a tight men’s encounter against Sale 3-2.
Both sides had been in good form of late and very little between them with either able to have won on the heavy ground.
Nick Baglioni, Shane Bartlett and Ren Crunden-Smith scored for Nagle, while Sale’s goals came through Mark Benfield and Lachlan Meredith.
A resurgent Orbost side defeated Maffra 10-1 with goals from Brendan Coulton, Craig Martin, Paul Martin (two each), Darren Healey, Dylan Jerimah, Glenn Lavell and Jason Lavell. Adam Cairns scored for Maffra.
Bairnsdale and Swan Reach drew 3-3. Goals for Swan Reach were scored by Matt Cunningham, Sam Richardson and Damien Snell, while Edward Long, Ry Mutimer and Glen Grant scored for Bairnsdale.
THERE will be no matches for the next two weeks as the competition takes a break for the school holidays.
