SALE run away in the second half to defeat Bairnsdale 42-25 in round 10 of Gippsland League netball.
When the sides met at Bairnsdale in round one, the Magpies scraped home by three goals and it looked like being on again for the return match on Sunday when the Magpies led 17-15 at half-time.
Sale then showed why it was second on the ladder to Leongatha with a brilliant third quarter, playing its best netball for the season to outscore the Redlegs 18-6 to set up their 17-goal win.
Defenders Mel Johnston and Clare Billings kept gathering the rebounds with support from wing defence Tori Dessent, turning defence into attack.
Kasey McKay and Sarah Jolly were on top in the midcourt, while Lara Dunkley and Georgia Andrews were on fire, dropping shots in from all angles.
Magpies coach Di Jolly, who rated this match as a danger game and a guide to where the side was at, was pleased with the way the girls responded to the challenge.
Maffra remains outside the A grade top five on percentage after an upset 50-26 loss at Morwell. The victory was the just the Tigers’s second of the season.
This Saturday the Eagles have a change to move back into the top five when they host the side keeping out of it, Drouin.
In other A grade results, Traralgon defeated Warragul 40-32 and Leongatha overcame Wonthaggi 54-42.
