Sale United falls to fourth place

MOE United leap-frogged Sale into third place on the Gippsland Soccer League after the Red Devils proved too strong for cross town rival Monash 3-1 and the Swans were soundly defeated by Fortuna 4-0.

Fortuna overcame the disappointment of losing to Sale last time they met with two goals in each half to send the Swans packing. Returning goal sneak Hayden Tanti scored both first half goals before his cousin Josh Tanti along with Joel Pirotta hit the back of the net in the second half.

In other matches, Falcons’ 1-0 win over Traralgon City on Sunday put the Morwell club in the frame for a finals berth, an already compacted ladder became tighter when the Traralgon Olympians defeated Newborough-Yallourn 3-1 on Saturday night, Churchill United rained on Tyers’ 30th anniversary celebrations, handing out a 10-1 hiding in the Hazelwood South Reserve mud on Friday night.

SALE United will be aiming to stave off its third defeat on the trot when it hosts ladder leader Churchill, who has appeared to have shaken off its mid-season form slump with seventeen goals to its credit in the last two matches.

Last time Sale was without key veterans Jon Piefke and Romi Bitar and was soundly defeated away from home 6-0.
