Maffra men draw in hockey

MAFFRA drew with favourite Bairnsdale 1-1 at home in round eight of East Gippsland men’s hockey.

Danny Gadjos found the net for Maffra, while Bairnsdale’s goal was scored by Ry Mutimer.

Sale lost to Nagle 3-1. Lachlan Meredith scored Sale’s goal, while Shane Bartlett, Chas Newcomen and Blake Stevens scored for the home side.

A rejuvenated Orbost overcame Swan Reach 3-2. For the winner, Dylan Jeremiah scored twice and Ross McKenzie once, while Swan Reach’s goals were scored by Simon Murrell and Gerard Tong.

IN the women’s, Maffra dominated Bairnsdale to win 6-0 with goals from Kahlia Hillbritch (two), Sharon Mogridge, Jessica Picker, Kate Steinmann and Kate Mirams.

The Sale Cygnets showed they are contenders for finals this year with a 2-0 win over Nagle, thanks to goals from Tahlia Colley and Belinda Coulton.

Heather Andrews and Prue McNaughton scored four goals each as the Sale Swans were too strong for Wellington, winning 9-0. Allison Kelly scored the other Swans goal.

Swan Reach notched up a 7-1 win over Orbost with goals from Shana Snell (three), Rebecca Corben and Sarah Grixti (two each). Annika Caune scored for Orbost.

TOMORROW, Swan Reach will host Maffra, Wellington travels to Bairnsdale and Orbost to Sale. In the extra women’s game, Sale Swans will host Nagle.
