Sale loses at home

SALE lost 1-0 at home against Orbost during round nine of East Gippsland men’s hockey.

The match at Stephenson Park was close all day, but the visitor finished on top through a goal from Paul Lavell.

Maffra was forced to forfeit its match against Swan Reach.

Bairnsdale defeated Nagle 4-3. Mitchell Meade scored two goals and Scott Gillett and Trent Ryan one each for Bairnsdale, while Nagle’s scorers were Shane Bartlett, Oscar Crunden Smith and Ren Crunden-Smith.

MAFFRA has been dominant in the women’s competition this year, but a determined Swan Reach held it to a 4-4 draw. Kahlia Hillbritch scored a hat-trick and Sharon Mogridge a goal for Maffra, with Shana Snell and Sarah Grixti scoring twice each for Swan Reach.

Bairnsdale was too strong for Wellington, winning 3-0 with goals from H. Peacock, K. Virgo and J. Smith.

Sale Cygnets were too strong for Orbost, recording a 5-0 with goals from Emily Carrolan (two), Julieanne Nicholls (two) and Belinda Coulton.

Nagle was too strong for the Sale Swans, winning with goals from Paula O’Neill, Fiona Morrison, Erin Weir, Leah Livingstone, Mikayla Blackshaw and Jordan Bartlett.

ON Saturday, Maffra is at home to Nagle, Swan Reach will host Sale and Wellington travels to Orbost. Bairnsdale’s women will host the Sale Swans at Orbost.
