MAFFRA was too strong for Wellington and recorded a big win to maintain its lead on top of the East Gippsland women’s hockey ladder.
Goals were scored by Kahlia Hillbritch, Emily Mogridge, Kate Steinman, Kate Mirams and Adele O’Doherty.
The Sale Cygnets were too strong for Bairnsdale, winning 5-0 with goals from Emily Carrolan (two), Belinda Coulton, Gemma Tattersall and Catherine Teed.
Nagle defeated Orbost 4-1 win. Isobelle McArthur, Paula O’Neill, Marnie Neal and Annalise Allen scored for Nagle and Angela Costello for Bairnsdale.
THE Sale men had a 1-0 loss at home to Bairnsdale with the sides separated Scott Gillett goal.
Both sides played well in difficult conditions but in the end, fortune favoured Bairnsdale.
Maffra played well and was able to match Swan Reach for most of the game, but lost 3-1. Nagle goals were scored by Simon Murrell, Dave Tong and Ged Tong, while Danny Gadjos scored for Maffra.
Orbost continued its good form with a 2-1 win in a close quality game against Nagle. Brendan Coulton and Paul Lavell scored for Orbost and Nicholas Baglioni for Nagle.
ON Saturday, Wellington will host Swan Reach at Lions Park in Sale, Maffra is home to Sale and Nagle will travel to Bairnsdale. Orbost will have the bye in all grades but men’s and under 18s, who will play Swan Reach at Lions Park.
