SALE continued its run of upsets in Gippsland League A grade netball finals, defeating reigning premier Drouin 50-39 in the first semi-final at Traralgon on Sunday.
The first half went goal-for-goal before Sale, with more accurate shooting and passing, gradually edged away in the second half.
After trailing 25-23 at half-time, the Magpies made their move during an outstanding third quarter to take a 36-32 lead into the final change.
The Sale defence of Mel Johnston, who was named best-on-court, Clare Billings and Montana Holmes intercepted Drouin passes, forced turnovers and picked up rebounds which were quickly converted into goals by Lara Dunkley and Georgia Andrews.
The Magpies stormed home in the final quarter, scoring 14 goals to seven.
In the preliminary final this weekend, Sale will play Traralgon, who lost to Leongatha 41-31 in the second semi-final on Saturday.
LEONGATHA’S B grade side joined its A grade team in the grand final winning the second semi-final against Traralgon. The Maroons will meet Morwell in the preliminary after the Tigers defeated Drouin in the first semi.
IN C grade, Traralgon won the second semi-final against Morwell and Leongatha defeated Drouin in the first semi.
SALE advanced to the under 17 grand final after playing its best netball of the season to defeat Traralgon 42-34 in the second semi-final.
Magpies goal attack Lara Dunkley was named best-on-court.
Maffra scored an impressive 48-18 win over Wonthaggi in the first semi-final and will play Traralgon for the remaining grand final berth.
SALE will meet Wonthaggi in the under 15 preliminary final after the Magpies lost a high standard second semi-final, 35-32, against Traralgon.
Wonthaggi scored a hard fought 34-22 win over Maffra in the first semi.
SALE will play in the under 13 grand final after inflicting Traralgon’s first defeat of the season with a 23-20 second semi-final win.
In the preliminary final, Traralgon will play Wonthaggi, who defeated Maffra in the first semi, 36-27.
