Eagles’ come from behind victory

THE Maffra Eagles came back from 15 points down to defeat reigning Country Basketball League Gippsland women’s premiers the Churchill Blue Devils at home on Saturday night.

Trailing midway through the game, Maffra turned it around in the second half with accurate shooting and strong defence to come out the victor by nine points.

Tori Wilson led the charge at both ends of the court, applying tough defensive pressure and top scoring with 20 points. Breeanna Alexandar’s three three-point shots kept Maffra in the match, contributing to her 18 points for the game.

The insightful coaching from Peta Allman had a motivating impact, with the Eagles able to adjust to any of Churchill’s advances. Maffra finished the match strongly in front of an enthusiastic crowd, with an end score of 80-71.

This weekend Maffra have a double-header, beginning away against Western Port this Saturday night from 6pm, and then at home on Sunday against Korumburra at the Cameron Sporting Complex from 1pm.
