THE Maffra Eagles held off a fourth quarter fightback from the Western Port Steelers to win their Country Basketball League match 63-59 on Sunday.
The Eagles welcomed Western Port to Maffra hoping to avenge the one-point loss in round three.
Maffra controlled the first three quarters and led by as much as 15 points as a result of topping scoring from Jazmin Allman (14 points) and Julie Foat (13). Breanna Alexander and Jessica Adams were given the task of shutting down Western Port’s main offensive threat Jess Thompson and succeeded, keeping her to 12 points.
Western Port rallied in the final quarter with some great three-point shooting to reduce the margin to four points The Eagles side managed to hold on to the lead to win.
This Sunday, it will be the clash of second versus third when the Eagles head to Moe to play the Meteors from noon.
