THE Sale Sonics recorded a win and loss from its Country Basketball League double-header weekend.
On Saturday night, the Sonics won 92-78 at Korumburra.
A strong second quarter gave the Sonics a 17-point half-time lead, which was extended to 20 by three-quarter-time. The Wildcats had the better of the final term, but the Sonics won by 14 points.
Ryan Pendlebury top-scored with 29 points, while Andrew Quirk contributed 24.
On Sunday afternoon at Traralgon, the Sonics lost to Churchill 106-92.
The defending champion Blue Devils took the initiative early to lead by 10 points at quarter-time. From then on, the Sonics were left to play catch-up but were unable to bridge the gap.
Pendlebury scored 24 points for the Sonics, Matt Counahan 21 and Billy Hughes and Marcus Cope 14 each.
For the Blue Devils, Jordan Canovan scored 30 points and Vashon Weaver 23.
THE Maffra Eagles lost to Churchill 68-65 in the women’s competition.
After conceding a four-point deficit at quarter-time and trailing by seven at half-time, the Eagles came back into the contest with a 19-9 third third to take the lead heading into the final term.
The Blue Devils finished stronger, winning the final term 17-11 to score a three-point victory.
THE CBL will be taking a two-week break for Christmas and New Year, with the Sale Sonics to host Bairnsdale on January 5 before a trip to Warragul the next day. Maffra will next play on January 12 at Traralgon.
