THE Sale Sonics men lost at home to the Western Port Steelers on Saturday night during round 12 of the Country Basketball League.
Following victory at home against Bairnsdale and a loss at Warraul the weekend before, the Sonics trailed the Steelers 28-16 at quarter-time before a 22-16 second term put the Sonics back into contention.
The Steelers had the better of the second half, winning 84-73.
Ryan Pendlebury scored 15 points for the Sonics, Matt Counahan 14 and Andew Quirk and Billy Hughes 13 each.
Chris Jones scored 23 points for the Steelers.
The Sonics will play a double header at home this weekend, hosting Traralgon on Saturday night from 7pm and Churchill on Sunday from 1pm.
THE Maffra Eagles women lost 69-35 at Traralgon on Saturday.
The T-Birds set the tone early with an 18-5 first quarter before leading 32-12 at half-time.
The match was put out of the Eagles’ reach when the home side scored 24 points to 12 in the third quarter.
Leisl Sexton scored 26 points and Cindy Wellington for the T-Birds, while Ella Bertacchini scored 12 for the Eagles.
The Eagles will head to Korumburra this Sunday for a vital match for both sides’ finals hopes. Tip-off will be 1pm.
