Australia Day at the races

AUSTRALIA Day will be celebrated tomorrow at Greenwattle Racecourse with families encouraged to bring a picnic basket and rug.

Festivities begin with a flag raising ceremony from 12.30pm before the first race at 1pm.

There will be children’s activities, including craft, supervised sports and games and jumping castle.

The Lions Club will be operating a barbecue.

Racing will be as usual of high standard.

Among local entries are the Cliff Murray team, and Mario Farrugia will be looking for good performances from Chad and Tanjil.

Tarago Storm, from the Paul Worthington stable, ran well at its first start.

Colin Butcher has entered Derivative for a first-up run in over a year, and Zellemsee, who ran a promising third at Bairnsdale last start, both to be ridden by Darren Gauci.

Mick Price continues to plunder the prize money in Gippsland and has likely hopes in the Fastnet Rock colt Aeronautical Joe having his first start, and One Moment in the 0-62 handicap, both to be ridden by Ben Knobel.

All the Sale races, plus the Blue Diamond preview racing from Caulfield, will be shown on the big screen.
