CBL grand finalists decided

WARRAGUL will meet Western Port in the Country Basketball League Gippsland men’s grand final on Saturday night, while Korumburra will play Traralgon in the women’s.

In the men’s semi-finals last weekend, Warragul defeated Moe 90-76 with a strong second quarter from the Warriors proving the difference. Michael Santo scored 24 for Warragul, while Simon Vannapresuth scored 22 for Moe.

Western Port overcame Churchill in the other semi-final.

After trailing 27-9 at quarter-time, Churchill came back in the second term to cut the deficit to six by half-time. The Steelers held their nerve in the second half to win 82-72 with Jack Gaze scoring 22, while Jordan Canovan netted 33 for the Blue Devils.

The men’s grand final will be played in Traralgon Saturday night from 8pm, after the women’s decider between Korumburra and Traralgon from 6pm.

Korumburra defeated Western Port 71-54 at Somerville in the semi-finals, set-up by a 24-9 first quarter. Marie Donohue scored 23 for Korumburra, with Jessica Thompson scoring 19 for Western Port.

Traralgon was pushed by Moe before winning 69-61 after trailing by three points at half-time. For the T-Birds, Jamilee and Danni Pearce scored 18 points each, while Carly Mullen-Bianconi scored 23 for Moe.
