IT was a Gippsland double as the Traralgon and Warragul claimed the Country Basketball League women’s and men’s all-conference titles last weekend in Bendigo.
The Traralgon led Shepparton by three points at half-time of the women’s final. The T-Birds extended their lead as the scoring slowed for both teams heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Gators continued to press but were not getting the rewards they deserved as the T-Birds went on to win by eight, 73-65.
Jamilee Pearce scored 24 points for the T-Birds.
WARRAGUL and Mt Gambier qualified for the men’s final on head-to-head records after the pool matches, which also involved Shepparton.
After Warragul lost its final pool match to Mt Gambier, scored were level 12-12 at quarter-time.
With a narrow lead at half-time, the Warriors came out in the third quarter to blow the game open.
Jake Horstman and Mike Santo accounted for 22 of the 24 points they scored in the quarter and Mt Gambier could only muster nine points for the term.
Despite the Lakers finishing hard, the Warriors won 72-51. Horstman scored 18 points.
