SALE-Maffra is in prime position to make the provincial division final at cricket’s Melbourne Country Week.
The Sharks maintained their unbeaten run yesterday with victory over South West at Dandenong.
The Sharks are 13 points ahead of second-placed Bendigo with Mornington Peninsula a further two back in third. The top two teams will meet in the final tomorrow.
South West made 9-200 from its 50 overs with Sale-Maffra captain Matt Dowsett taking 3-28.
Sale-Maffra was rarely troubled in reply, finishing on 4-312, its second highest score since the association was formed in 1950. The score, however, is the fourth highest when totals made by combined Sale and Maffra association teams before 1950 is taken into account.
Daniel Bedggood scored 72, Josh Rurawhe continued his fine week with 60, Mike Jones scored 50, while Dowsett and Jack Tatterson were the not out batsmen, with 49 and 47 respectively.
Sale-Maffra will play two-time defending champion Geelong, fourth on the table, at Albert Park today.
