MORNINGTON Peninsula proved too strong for Sale-Maffra in the Melbourne Country Week provincial division cricket final on Friday.
Bidding for their first Country Week title since 2006, the Sharks were bowled out in their final over for 202, restricted by tight bowling mid-innings. Mike Jones scoring 57 and Brett Lanigan 50.
Mornington Peninsula chased down the Sharks’ score in the 45th over for the loss of three wickets.
An 83-run opening stand between man of the match Justin Bridgeman (58) and Robert Hearn (44) set-up the Mornington Peninsula innings, while Daniel Warwick (59 not out) and Scott Phillips (40 not out) saw it to victory.
Jones took two wickets for Sale-Maffra.
BAIRNSDALE will play in the provincial division next year after defeating Warrnambool in the division two final, while Warragul won the division four decider against Albury-Wodonga.
