SIX weeks after hosting the Victorian Country Swimming Championships, Gippsland’s best swimmers will head for Sale this weekend.
The Gippsland championships will be held from Saturday to Monday at the Lex Glover Regional Aquatics Complex.
Heats will be held from 9.30am each morning.
There will be more than 370 competitors at the event with Sale Swimming Club sending a team of 39.
Joining Sale at the championships will be East Gippsland, Moe, Morwell, South Gippsland-Bass, Traralgon and Warragul clubs, while there will also be one competitor from Myrtleford.
The top at 13 of the past 14 Victoria Country Championships, Traralgon is expected to again be Gippsland’s top club, with its team of 127 competitors, including some from Wellington Shire, including Emily Morrison and Ian Melrose.
Yachties set for overnight test
The sporting spotlight this Labour Day weekend will also be shared by the 46th annual Marlay Point Overnight Race.
More than 100 yachts will set off across Lake Wellington tomorrow night for Australia’s premier race for trailerable boats.
The race will begin from the Lake Wellington Yacht Club at Marlay Point at 7.45pm and head across the lakes Wellington and Victoria overnight, finishing Sunday morning at Payneville.
Tonight, there will be a welcome party for competitors at the clubhouse.
Tomorrow there will be full catering at Marlay Point from lunchtime.
