Slow start for Sale Rangers

THE Sale Rangers had a slow start to the Latrobe Valley Baseball Association season, going down to Moe-Newborough in the A grade and Morwell in B and C grades.

In the A grade, Moe-Newborough shut Sale out and scored seven in the first innings. The Rangers clawed back two runs in the third only to have the Dodgers scored another seven.

Sale did its best to pull Moe-Newborough back, keeping it to six runs over the remaining four innings while putting on three runs itself, but the Dodgers were too strong, winning 20-5.

James Jackson was Sale’s best at bat with two RBIs and a single, while Will Hector and Dan Shaw also brought home singles.

In B grade, Morwell scored 10 runs in the second innings before Sale fought back with five home in the third.

The remaining three innings were hit-for-hit with the Cougars bringing in seven runs and Sale another six, with the home side winning 19-12.

Bats ran hot with most of the team getting hits while Adrian Hector and Dan Shaw both pitched two innings each.

Sale struggled with the bats in C grade, getting only three hits for the game and four runs while Morwell bats ran hot scoring 13.

Tony Taylor scored a triple with Daniel Green and Allan Ashlin both scoring doubles for Sale.

This Sunday, Sale will travel to Moe-Newborough to face the Dodgers in all grades, while the first round for the junior teams will be this weekend.
