Maffra too strong

MAFFRA was too strong for an undermanned Wellington side in round four of East Gippsland women’s hockey.

The visitor produced a resounding 15-0 victory over a home side which struggled all day.

Kate O’Toole scored five goals, Kate Steinman three, Gabrielle Smith and Ainsley Butcher two each, with one goal each from Kate Ingram, and Meaghan and Sharon Mogridge.

Nagle defeated Orbost 3-0 with goals from Fiona Morrison, Paula O’Neill and Holly Bowden.

IN the men’s, Sale had a 2-2 draw with Bairnsdale after a fast and hard match played in ideals conditions.

The draw was a fitting result for two teams who slugged it out all day.

Jason Slattery and C. Kanda scored for Sale, while Bairnsdale’s goals came from Ed Long and Rye Mutimer.

Maffra defeated Wellington 7-1 with goals from Mark Humphris (three), Ben Heaton-Harris (two), Shannon Francis and Ben Mogridge. Richard Hill scored for Wellington.

Orbost defeated Nagle 2-1 in a close quality game. Both Orbost goals were scored by Mike Irvine, while Paula O’Neill scored for Nagle.

ON Saturday Wellington will host Sale, Nagle travels to Maffra and Swan Reach and Bairnsdale do battle. Orbost has the bye.
