Sale United cuts Churchill lead

SALE United moved to within two points of Gippsland Soccer League leader Churchill United after a 4-0 win against Tyers on Sunday.

After losing to Traralgon City the previous weekend, the Swans returned to the winners’ list as Churchill had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Moe United.

Following a scoreless first half at Sale, the Swans opened the scoring through Jon Piefke.

Ashley Ross scored the next two goal, the second from the penalty spot, to take the match away from the Lightning.

Tommy Nguyen completed the scoring.

Elsewhere during “Rivalry Round”, Monash defeated Newborough-Yallourn United 1-0, Traralgon Olympians had a 2-1 win against Traralgon City, and Fortuna was too strong for Falcons, winning 4-0.

THIS Sunday, Sale United will head to Burrage Reserve to play bottom-placed Newborough-Yallourn United, Falcons will host Monash, Traralgon City will be at home against Moe, and Olympians will head to Tyers.

On Saturday night, Churchill will host a Fortuna side eager to return to the top four.
