Sale umpires to officiate championships

SALE Umpires Association will send a strong contingent to officiate in the WorkSafe Country Championships this weekend.

The local umpires were selected through the AFL Victoria Country Umpires Academy program, with three training sessions held in Churchill and Morwell in the lead up to the championships.

James Stockwell, who officiated at Nar Nar Goon at last year’s championships, will once again come across Ellinbank and District seniors when he umpires their match against Alberton at Inverloch.

Joining him on the boundary will be Michael Beauglehole. A second year umpire, Beauglehole is in his first season with the umpires academy and tomorrow will be his first representative match.

Jordan Coggin, also a second year umpire, will officiate at Moe in the seniors match between Gippsland and Yarra Valley-Mountain Districts as a goal umpire.

Also at Moe, David Read will umpire the under 18 match as field umpire. Read also umpired the under 18s at Nar Nar Goon last year.

Joining him on the boundary will be Scott and Ashleigh Lovas, while Davyd Reid will also be at Moe as match day boundary umpire coach.

It will be Reid’s second Country Championships, coaching in Bendigo and Carlton last year with the 2012 under 15 V/Line Cup and 2013 under 16 Country Championships also on his coaching resume.

Allan Magor has also been selected as match day coach, and will make the trip to Carlton tomorrow.

Magor, who has two V/Line Cups under his belt, also coached at Country Championships at Nar Nar Goon and Berwick last year.
