THE Sale Rangers enjoyed their first A grade win of the Latrobe Valley baseball season last weekend, defeating the Moe-Newborough Dodgers 9-6.
The visiting Dodgers opened the scoring with a run in the second innings before the Rangers hit straight back, scoring three and then five in the third innings.
Moe-Newborough scored two in the fifth before Sale clawed one back in the 6th.
The Dodgers fought back, scoring two in the seventh and one in the ninth, but to no avail, as the Rangers held on to win 9-6.
The Rangers had 10 hits to the Dodgers’ 14.
Will Hector pitched the first seven innings for Sale, giving up 12 hits for five runs with four strike-outs.
Justin Johnston pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits for one run with a strike-out.
At the plate, Hector, hitting three from four at bats, scoring a single, double and a triple. James Jackson had an outstanding game catching and hitting two singles, while Johnston hit a single and a double.
In the other A grade game, Traralgon maintained its unbeaten start to the season, defeating Churchill 11-3.
This Sunday, Sale will host the Churchill Braves and Moe-Newborough will host Traralgon.
