SALE made it eight straight wins to begin the Gippsland League netball season when it defeated Drouin by 18 goals at home on Saturday.

During the finals last year the Magpies upset Drouin on their way to the grand final. This time, the undefeated Magpies was favourite to win.

The Magpies expected the Hawks to come hard at them, but the home side was quick and sharp early, leading 15-8 at the first change.

In an impressive second term, Sale kicked away to lead 34-17 at half-time and went on to win 43-25.

Kate Eddy came back into the team to form a solid defence with coach Mel Johnston and Kasey McKay.

In the midcourt, Lexie Joyce, Montana Holmes, Tori Dessent and Beth Goodsell all made good use of their opportunities.

In attack, Lara Dunkley and Ella Bertacchini played their usual consistent roles.

The Magpies will meet second-placed Morwell in next Sunday’s match of the round.

MAFFRA played a thrilling 38-38 draw at Wonthaggi.

The result moved Wonthaggi into the top five, although it could be knocked out if Traralgon defeated Morwell yesterday.

Despite being second last on the ladder, Maffra is only a win and a half outside the top five. The Eagles will host bottom-placed Warragul next Saturday.

IN other A grade results, Leongatha defeated Moe 47-12, Bairnsdale had a 31-28 win against Warragul, and Morwell was too strong for Traralgon on Monday, winning 49-38.
