EAST Gippsland Hockey Association resumed play after the previous week’s cancellation, with all matches played in fine conditions.
With the association nominating the round as the ‘women’s round’, the day was celebrated with afternoon teas following the women’s matches.
Women’s ladder leader Sale had a convincing 4-0 win over third-placed Maffra.
Maffra battled hard to stay with Sale in the first half, going in at half-time 1-0 down, however, Sale’s class showed in the second half.
Jenny McGuinness continued her prolific goal scoring form with three opportunistic goals before Emily Carrolan rounded out the victory with the fourth goal.
Second-placed Swan Reach was also impressive with a convincing 7-0 win over Orbost. Sarah Grixti scored four goals, while Lisa Pruscino, Katie Tong and Sarah Whitechurch each scored one.
Nagle consolidated fourth position with a 4-0 win over Bairnsdale. Fiona Morrison scored two goals, while Megan Brill and Nadine Philip added one goal each.
SALE moved into third place on the men’s ladder after a hard fought 2-0 victory against Maffra.
The improving Maffra team has been competitive in recent matches, but was unable to match Sale in attack.
Sale’s goals were scored by Adam Slattery.
Swan Reach relinquished third spot after a 5-1 loss to ladder leader Orbost.
Brendan Coulton scored four goals for Orbost, and Craig Martin one. Swan Reach’s goal was put in by Dave Tong.
Nagle consolidated second position with a convincing 6-0 victory over Bairnsdale. Oscar Crunden-Smith and Jack Parwata each scored two goals, while Bryan Smith and Will Howden rounded it out with one goal each.
TOMORROW, Swan Reach will host Nagle, Sale will travel to Orbost, and Wellington will host Bairnsdale. Maffra will have the bye.
