Swans win thriller

STRATFORD crept ahead in the dying seconds to defeat Wy Yung by one goal in East Gippsland netball.

Both teams began slowly, with the score at 6-6 at quarter-time.

In the second quarter good defensive pressure from Wy Yung was capped off by good attacking teamwork as the Tigers led 16-14 at half-time.

In the third quarter the Tigers came out quickly and continued to build on their lead. Sandy Slattery’s centre court changes at half-time began to gel and Stratford turned the ball over and scored quickly through Michelle Coster to peg back that lead.

The Swans led 23-22 at the final change.

The final quarter was tight, with both teams in front by two goals at various times.

Stratford crept ahead by one in the last few seconds and the whistle beat Wy Yung’s efforts to even the result with the Swans winning 33-32 and keep its six-point lead on top of the ladder.

Second-placed Lucknow defeated Paynesville 47-30 and Lindenow defeated Orbost-Snowy Rovers 38-26.
