Sale United passes Fortuna test

SALE United strengthened its hold on third place on the Gippsland Soccer League ladder with a 1-0 win against Fortuna.

Pushing for a return to the top four, Fortuna was expected to challenge the Swans, which is exactly what happened.

A first goal from Ashley Ross was all that separated the teams on the scoreboard with the Swans able to stop Fortuna attacks.

Sale United is now four points ahead of fourth-placed Monash, who was upset at Tyers last weekend.

The 3-2 win was just the Lightning’s second victory of the season.

Two second half goals gave ladder leader Churchill United a 3-1 win against Newborough-Yallourn United.

Second-placed Moe United defeated Traralgon Olympians 4-0.

Falcons defeated Traralgon City 1-0.

SALE United will look to further consolidate third place on Sunday when it travels to Newborough to meet fourth-placed Monash.

Also on Sunday, Churchill will host Traralgon City, Falcons will host Tyers and Newborough-Yallourn will head to Moe for a local derby.

Fortuna will host Olympians on Saturday night.
