No changes at the top

THERE were no changes to the East Gippsland women’s hockey ladder after the weekend, with games going according to form.

Maffra was in control from the first minute in its 8-0 victory over Orbost. Caitlin Frisina and Kate O’Toole scored three goals each, while Kate Ingram and Kate Steinmann rounded out the win.

Sale had a solid 6-1 win against Nagle. Emily Carrolan scored three goals with one each from Kate Hamilton, Julia Lee and Julianne Nicholls, while Nagle’s goal was scored by Amanda Stewart.

Swan Reach was dominant against Wellington, winning 27-0. Shana Snell and Sarah Grixti scored six goals each, Sarah Whitechurch four, Beck Corben three, Megan Fitness and Danae Murrell two each, while Lisa Pruscino, Sue Spiller, Katie Tong and Denise Rothwell scored one each.

NAGLE, second on the men’s ladder, defeated fifth-placed Sale 2-0 in a tight match of East Gippsland men’s hockey. Bryan Smith scored both goals for Nagle.

Top team Orbost returned to winning form, dominating Maffra in winning 8-0. Paul Lavell scored three goals, Brendan Coulton two, while Mitchell Eaton, Jason Lavell and Craig Martin added one each.

Swan Reach dominated Wellington to record a 23-0 win. Dale Murrell scored five goals, while Jonathan Knight, Simon Murrell and Kobi Laudani scored four each, Aaryn Venter scored two goals, with one each from Damian Snell, Peter Stevens, Michael Tong and Sarah Grixti.

ON Saturday Maffra will host Wellington, Bairnsdale will travel to Sale and Orbost will host Nagle. Swan Reach will have a bye.
