Maffra too strong for Wellington

MAFFRA had a strong 7-1 win at home against Wellington during round 11 of East Gippsland men’s hockey.

Danny Gadjos scored three goals and Ben Heaton-Harris two with one from each from Mark Humphris and Ben Mogridge. Hayden Cochrane scored for Wellington.

Sale held out for a 3-2 victory at Bairnsdale. In the process, Sale has now taken over fourth spot from its opponent.

Ryan Maynard, Adam Slattery and Jason Slattery scored for Sale, while Edward Long scored Bairnsdale’s goals.

Top two teams Orbost and Nagle played a tense 1-1 draw, meaning Orbost maintains its one-point lead at the top of the ladder. Oscar Crunden-Smith scored for Nagle with Eddie Gibbons replying for Orbost.

IN the women’s, third-placed Maffra defeated Wellington 17-0.

Caitlin Frisina scored seven goals, Kate Ingram three, Karen Burgess and Sharon Mogridge two each, while Ainsley Butcher, Jo O’Doherty and Kate O’Toole scored one goal each.

Top team Sale dominated Bairnsdale with a 12-0 victory. Julianne Nicholls scored four goals, while Emily Carrolan, Andie Christie, Belinda Coulton and Rebecca Thorburn scored two each.

Nagle won a high-scoring match against Orbost, 4-2. Fiona Morrison scored two goals for Nagle, with Holly Bowden and Paula O’Neill scoring one each, while Molly Coulton and Elly Smith scored for Orbost.

THIS Saturday, Wellington will host Sale, Maffra travels to Nagle and Bairnsdale will host Swan Reach. Orbost will have the bye.
